Dubai, UAE (Oct. 22nd, 2013) – THE TORCH DOHA has been informed that it is amongst the winning hotels of the esteemed International Hotel Awards in the 2013 Arabian regional competition.

THE TORCH DOHA competed against a number of hotels and resorts in Qatar to receive this recognition. Successful entrants have been invited to attend a high-profile gala dinner and awards ceremony at the One & Only Royal Mirage in Dubai on Oct. 24th where the winning companies will learn which level of achievement they have obtained. The top-scoring winners who will go on to compete in the International Hotel Awards global competition will be announced at the close of the evening.

The Torch – member of Leading Hotels of the World, is the flagship project situated at the heart of Doha’s Sports City, Aspire Zone. The 5-star luxury hotel opened its doors to visitors in November 2011.

Situated at 300m high and with 360° panoramic views across the city, the hotel is the result of comprehensive architectural, engineering and technical design, formerly shaped to represent a colossal torch which for the duration of the 15th Asian Games in 2006 held its symbolic flame.

The hotel concept and interior design is captivating for the high end traveler: the rooms with their top feature – the new iPad solution, the revolving restaurant with its panoramic views and the cantilevered pool, the highest in Doha are some of the main attractions. The hotel’s iconic silhouette with its kinetic light display at night is standing high on Doha’s skyline.

The Torch Doha General Manager, Mr. Gerhard Foltin declared: “There is no greater satisfaction for our property than to be highly recognized in the new hotel construction and design category. We are proudly representing Qatar in the world hospitality scene as the premier venue for those who are searching for state-of-the-art accommodation with latest in-room technology, sporting and fitness facilities. This prestigious award adds up to the hotel’s record and reinforces our commitment to product innovation and service excellence.”

The International Hotel Awards has 17 categories and up to three 5-star awards for each category are awarded on a national level before going on to compete on a regional level. In addition to categories for several types of specialty hotels and categories by hotel size, there are also categories for hotel architecture, construction, interior design, marketing and website. The Chairman of the Judging Panel is Sir David Michels, Retired CEO of Hilton Hotels.

Each hotel winner will receive either a Highly Commended or 5-Star award. The 5-star winners will be placed under further examination and just one from each category will be selected to represent the Arabia region in the 2013 International Hotel Awards. The regional winners who will go on to compete in the International Final ‘World’s Best’ Hotel Awards will be invited to attend a gala event hosted in London this coming November, to coincide with the World Travel Market. They will compete against other regional winners from Africa, Asia, Europe, UK and the Americas to find the ultimate World’s Best in each category.

Stuart Shield, President of the International Hotel Awards said, “Every country has a separate rating system for the standard of their hotels, but the International Hotel Awards have provided a global standard to even the mark from country to country. We welcome the Arabian winners in joining this prestigious international club of exceptional hotels and resorts.”

Building upon the success of business events first added to the 2011 award ceremonies, the International Hotel Awards have partnered with the International Property Awards to host the Arabia & Africa Property & Hospitality Show at the same venue on Oct. 23rd. A number of professional networking events, including seminars, discussion tables and an exhibition will be attended by guests from the upper-echelons of their organizations, including Chairmen, CEOs, and Managing Directors. The 2013 Arabia & Africa Property & Hospitality Show is open to all industry related companies, property buyers and investors.
