THE TORCH DOHA RECEIVES HEIGHEST ACCOLADE FOR NEW HOTEL CONSTRUCTION…

London (November 12th, 2013) – THE TORCH DOHA received a World’s Best International Hotel Award for New Hotel Construction & Design category from the International Hotel Awards sponsored by EY and Virgin Atlantic. THE TORCH DOHA competed against a number of hotels and resorts from every corner of the world to receive this top recognition. The finest hoteliers from Asia, Africa, the Middle East, Europe, the UK and the Americas gathered at the glamorous Grosvenor House Hotel in London on Sunday, November 3rd 2013 to attend a glittering gala and to hear the long-anticipated results of the International Hotel Awards global competition.

The Torch Doha – member of Leading Hotels of the World, is the flagship project situated at the heart of Doha’s Sports City, Aspire Zone. The 5-star luxury hotel opened its doors to visitors in November 2011.

Situated at 300m high and with 360° panoramic views across Doha, the hotel is the result of comprehensive architectural, engineering and technical design, formerly shaped to represent a colossal torch which for the duration of the 15th Asian Games in 2006 held its symbolic flame, the highest flame in the history of the games.

The Torch Doha General Manager, Mr. Gerhard Foltin declared, “There is no greater satisfaction for our property than to be highly recognized in the New Hotel Construction and Design category as an International Winner. We are proudly representing Qatar in the world hospitality scene as the premier venue for those who are searching for state-of-the-art accommodation with latest in-room technology, sporting and fitness facilities. This prestigious award adds up to the hotel’s record and reinforces our commitment to innovation and service excellence.”

World’s Best awards were given out for the world’s most impressive hotels for a variety of categories and property types including Best Spa Hotel, Best Small Hotel, Best Sustainable Hotel and Best Resort Hotel. Awards were also given for hotel architecture, construction, interior design, marketing and website. A highly experienced team of professionals who cover the whole range of hospitality disciplines judged entries prepared by the hotels and selected the winners. The Chairman of the Judging Panel is Sir David Michels, Retired CEO of Hilton Hotels.

To obtain a World’s Best award, a hotel must first be successful competing against entrants in its own country before competing against other hotels in its region and obtaining an International Nomination. The International Nominees from Asia, Africa, the Middle East, Europe, UK and the Americas are again evaluated and only one for each category is named as the global winner.

Stuart Shield, President of the International Hotel Awards said, “A World’s Best International Hotel Award signifies the very best the world has to offer. Our World’s Best winners ought to be extremely proud of this recognition, which demonstrates their world-class accommodations and amenities. We welcome the 2013 winners in joining this exclusive international club of outstanding hotels and resorts.”
